•    that locals can call their own

•    where no one feels like a stranger
•    for all age groups
•    where laughter is on tap and infectious
•    where it’s OK to quietly read the                 paper or work on your own
•    that is an asset to the community

In the front bar at The Remarkable Hare there are no gimmicks, just high quality food and drink, nice people, courteous and caring staff and a commitment to the highest possible level of service for all guests, whether seen every day or on just one occasion.

Owners of The Remarkable Hare, Simon Dormand and Jan Leybourne say,

“The Remarkable Hare is located in the old Olde Englishe Hotel on Dale Road in Matlock town centre.  It had been empty for too long and it was our vision that this fine old bar could once again resonate with the unmistakable happy hub-bub of a classic English town centre hostelry.

We know our beer and have worked hard to find a selection of real ales and craft beers to satisfy all palates.  By widening the offer for real ale drinkers on Dale Road, we aim co-create further, a real destination for the discerning beer drinker.  Check out our Drinks Page for what’s on offer.

The amazing space that we have is also ideal for various events: celebrations, birthdays, anniversary's or family gatherings. Its is also a good space for training, corporate meetings and conferencing. Ambient music can be provided to suit the atmosphere. Check out our Events and Room Hire Pages for further details.

We aim to offer tasty, nutritious food, from a variety of international backgrounds, home cooked on the premises.  We deliberately use the word “cooked” and not “prepared” as, too often, the public encounters food that is prepared by pubs and bars but actually cooked (manufactured) elsewhere.  Our menu consists of fresh & real food that is lovingly cooked, as if in our own kitchen at home, with as many ingredients as possible procured and sourced locally.

Check out our Food Page to see a sample of what is on offer.

Above all, we hope all customers; both regulars and visitors will want to come back.

Ultimately, it’s the best compliment you can pay us!”
